About Us
A legacy of compassion and love.
The devastating tropical cyclone that struck the coast of Andhra Pradesh in 1977 claiming nearly 15,000 lives and causing widespread destruction, spurred a remarkable humanitarian effort. The Indian Orthodox Church under the spiritual and efficient leadership of Malankara Sabha’s Rathnam Late Lamented Dr. Geevarghese Mar Osthathios and the efforts of Late Fr. K. I. Philip did commendable relief work in Machilipatnam. This inspiring response bolstered the Church’s resolve to expand its outreach beyond Kerala.
This vision materialized in 1985 with the acquisition of suitable land on Nagarjunasagar Road, 50 km away from Hyderabad at Yacharam. The initial objective was to establish a home providing free education and support for healthy male children of leprosy patients, enabling them to integrate into mainstream society.
Despite early significant challenges, the unwavering belief, persistence, supervision, and guidance of late. Fr. K. I. Philip, popularly known as Philip Ramban, ensured the successful inauguration of Balagram on June 14, 1987. The ceremony was graced by Osthathios Thirumeni and Mrs. Pratibha Bharathi, the then Social Welfare Minister of Govt. of AP.
Since its inception, the hospital has done commendable work offering quality eye care to thousands of needy individuals at affordable prices.
Further expanding its compassionate initiatives, an old age home, Prathyasa Bhavan, was established in 2008. This facility provides dedicated care for the elderly, poor, and neglected who have lost hope.
In response to the lack of quality English medium schools in the vicinity, St. Gregorios Balagram took the initiative to establish a CBSE curriculum English medium school. The school commenced operations in 2014 in an existing building with 49 students.
Today, it operates from a new facility adhering to CBSE norms and provides quality education to 710 students at an affordable cost. St. Gregorios Balagram also offers hostel facilities for poor and needy students with a particular focus on the male children of leprosy patients.
